General Information

Report Cards: Report cards are given out twice a year (February and June). Your child’s February report card must be returned so that we can mark it again in June. Conferences are held when requested by a teacher or parent. Call the school to make an appointment if you feel the need to talk over any problem.

Newsletter: Each month a newsletter will be sent home. Please these carefully. They contain important information on monthly activities. Children have missed out on functions due to parents not reading the newsletter (Fathers’ Picnic and Mothers’ Day Tea, for example). This is heartbreaking! If you have not received a newsletter by the 5th of the month, please call or send a note.

Nondiscrimination: We shall not discriminate in providing services to children and their family on the basis of race, religion, cultural heritage, political beliefs, marital status, disability , or national origin.

Parent Visits: Parents my visit the school at anytime. Parental input welcome!!

Volunteering: If you are a parent who has time and would like to substitute or get experience in the Early Childhood field, please call and speak with Mrs. McCarthy. Many of our staff are parents of Building Blocks Alumni.

All-Day Parents: Parents must check in and out each day and note whether any person other than the parent is to pick up the child. Our log book is used when someone other than Mom or Dad picks up. All children need to have a file picture of family and friends who pick up. No child will be released to anyone the staff doesn’t know.

Snow Days: We follow the Lowell Public School closings (not Tewksbury). If Lowell closes, we are closed. If Lowell has a delay we will open at 8:00 am.

Special Note to 4:00 and 5:00 Pickups: Please do not be late picking up your child. The teachers who are closing make their own appointments, and it is not fair to hold them up. We all know emergencies occur; however, some have taken advantage in the past. If tardiness becomes a pattern, we will impose a fee payable immediately to the closing teacher. You will receive a notice of the fees after two late times. Also, if you are an all day parent, this means you are paying for the hours between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. It does not mean you must be in school by 7:00 a.m. It means you have the flexibility to come and go anytime between those hours. All-day children, however, should be in the building by 8:50 a.m. That is the time the children go to their individual classrooms.

Child Abuse Reporting Policy: According to OCCS (Office of Childcare Service), Section7.04 (2) (F) (1), all staff are mandated reporters and shall report suspected child abuse or neglect. The report shall be made to the Department of Social Services.
