Illness Policy

Illness Policies

Please review our Covid-19 Action Plan which will be in effect for our 20-21 school year. BUILDING BLOCKS COVID ACTION PLAN_SEPT 2020

It is required that we have a copy  of each child’s physical and immunization record on file prior to the start of school.  Children who do not have this information will not be allowed to attend. Starting on January 1, 2021 every child will be required to have a flu vaccine.

We find October and March to be big “cold” months. According to medical statistics, it’s very normal for a preschool child to have up to 7 or 8 colds during his/her first year of school. On the other hand, each year we do have many children with perfect attendance! Runny noses can be a problem during those months, and we do ask that if coughing persists, the child is kept home until the coughing can be controlled. If we find that a child has come to school with a fever, the parent will be called and asked to pick up the child. Some rashes can be contagious and because of this, we will not allow a child in school unless we have a note from a doctor stating what the rash is and that it is not contagious. If antibiotics are prescribed, the child must be on the medication for 24 hours before returning to school. You may call the school between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to inform us if your child will not be in school due to illness. Please do not allow your child to talk you into letting him/her come to school when you know he/she is sick. Believe it or not, this does happen. As a parent, please take charge!

To help ensure the health of our children, the following is a guide for dealing with everyday illness:
